Trail Description
The Emerald Pools Trail is divided into three sections: Lower, Middle, and Upper Emerald Pools.
Lower Emerald Pools (0.6 miles, easy): This is the most accessible part of the trail, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. From the trailhead, follow a paved, mostly level path that hugs the Virgin River. Soon, you'll encounter the Lower Emerald Pool, a serene oasis shaded by cottonwood trees. The highlight of this section is a spectacular waterfall that cascades over the canyon wall, creating a refreshing mist for hikers to enjoy.
Middle Emerald Pools (0.5 miles, moderate): The trail becomes more challenging as you climb up a series of stone steps and switchbacks. Be cautious of slippery surfaces, especially after rainfall. Upon reaching the Middle Emerald Pools, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the surrounding canyon and two tranquil pools connected by a small waterfall.
Upper Emerald Pools (0.7 miles, moderate): The final push to the Upper Emerald Pool is the most difficult part of the trail. It features a steep, rocky incline that may be challenging for some hikers. At the summit, you'll find the Upper Emerald Pool nestled beneath a towering cliff face. This secluded pool is the perfect spot for a peaceful rest before making the return journey.
