About

Hurricane Cliffs offers free dispersed camping across more than 100 sites scattered through red rock desert terrain. Most spots accommodate tents and smaller RVs, though a few can handle larger rigs if you're careful navigating the dirt roads. The area sits about 17 miles from Zion's entrance, making it a budget-friendly base camp for park exploration.

The real draw here is the mountain biking. Miles of trails wind through the cliffs and desert landscape, ranging from easy cruisers to technical challenges. Even if you're not on two wheels, the scenery delivers. Red rock formations stretch in every direction, and you'll have front-row seats to some spectacular sunsets.

This is true boondocking (no water, no bathrooms, no hookups), so come prepared. Cell service works well with most carriers, which helps when you're planning your Zion adventures. The access roads have some ruts and rough patches, but they're manageable for most vehicles if you take it slow.

Spots fill up fast on weekends, especially during peak season. Arrive early Friday if you want your pick of sites. The few shaded spots go first, though most camping here happens under the open sky. Winter brings cold nights and potentially strong winds, so check weather before you commit to tent camping.

Nice spot for dispersed camping near Zion, but it's very poplar. We went in early May, got there around 6pm and had a hard time finding a spot. We had to drive quite a ways down the main road and we drove out multiple side roads and back. You can only camp in designated sites, there are brown posts marking sites and some marking no camping areas. The main road is pretty good (some washboarding), the side roads are a bit rough. We did ok in a 2wd camper van and there were lots of RVs, but wouldn't recommend if it wet. Beautiful view if you do find a spot!

Zero enforcement, camp wherever and as long as you want. It’s getting trashy so hopefully they shut it down. Motorcycles are using the bike paths, ATv’s speeding around. People live there for months.
