About
Wildcat Canyon sits on the eastern edge of Kolob Terrace, the high, quiet plateau north of Zion Canyon reached by driving Kolob Terrace Road out of the town of Virgin. The trail runs roughly six miles across the canyon floor, linking the Wildcat Canyon trailhead to the West Rim Trail near Lava Point, and it stays gentle enough that it reads as a pleasant walk rather than a grind.
Why hikers use it
- Trailhead access for the Northgate Peaks Trail, a short walk to a view of the Guardian Angels
- Starting point for the Left Fork of North Creek (the Subway) and the Right Fork
- A connecting leg of the Trans-Zion backpacking route between Kolob Terrace and the main canyon
This is drive-up access, not shuttle territory — Kolob Terrace Road is a separate entrance from the main canyon system, about 15.5 miles up from Virgin to the trailhead. The road is paved but narrow, and it closes with snow in winter.
