Taylor Creek Trailhead

Taylor Creek Trailhead is the starting point for one of the best hikes in Zion's Kolob Canyons section, a quieter district reached from I-15 rather than the main south entrance.

What the trail covers

• The out-and-back route runs about 5 miles round trip and takes most hikers around three hours, crisscrossing Taylor Creek repeatedly as it climbs into the canyon.
• Along the way it passes two homestead cabins from the early 1930s — the Larson Cabin near the North Fork confluence and the Fife Cabin about half a mile further up the Middle Fork — plus the folded rock layers of the Kanarraville Fold.
• The trail ends at Double Arch Alcove, a large sandstone amphitheater.
• Expect wet feet at stream crossings in spring and icy footing in winter; the Kolob Canyons entrance is about 20 miles south of Cedar City, roughly an hour from Zion Canyon proper.
