About
Taylor Creek Trail is the main maintained hike in Zion's Kolob Canyons district, following the Middle Fork of Taylor Creek up a narrowing canyon to the Double Arch Alcove — a cave-like undercut in the sandstone streaked black and white where water seeps through the rock. Along the way the trail passes two homestead cabins built in the early 1930s and the folded rock layers of the Kanarraville Fold.
What to know
- About 5 miles round trip with a gradual 500-foot climb; generally 3 to 5 hours
- Trailhead is roughly 2 miles from the Kolob Canyons entrance off I-15, a different access point than Zion's main south entrance near Springdale
- Considered moderate and workable for families, though the creek crossings can be uneven underfoot
