Tabernacle Dome Access Trail

The access trail to Tabernacle Dome leaves a pullout along Kolob Terrace Road in Zion's high country and follows an old sandy road bed for about half a mile, crossing a wash before angling toward the dome's north face. It's an approach path, not a maintained park trail, and it exists for one reason: to reach the base of Tabernacle Dome, a rounded sandstone summit at roughly 6,430 feet that draws technical climbers rather than hikers.

Tabernacle Dome has no route easier than low fifth class — the standard line runs around 5.2 to 5.4 with exposed scrambling below it. Casual visitors can follow the access trail to the base for a closer look at the formation, but reaching the summit requires climbing gear, rope skills, and route-finding experience.
