About

Stave Spring Trailhead sits on high-clearance dirt roads above Zion Ponderosa Ranch Resort, east of the park, and serves as the start for the Cable Mountain and Deertrap Mountain trails as well as the upper end of the East Rim Trail toward Weeping Rock and Observation Point. Zion Ponderosa runs a daily shuttle to the trailhead for guests, which spares visitors the rough final approach.

Good to know

  • A high-clearance vehicle is needed to reach the trailhead, and parking is limited to the small lot there.
  • There are no restrooms, water, or other services at the trailhead or along the trail.
  • Stave Spring itself, roughly the halfway point on the East Rim Trail descent toward Weeping Rock, flows intermittently; check current conditions with the park's Wilderness Desk before counting on it.
  • Routes from here reach genuine backcountry terrain, so carry your own water regardless of the season.
