South Guardian Angel

South Guardian Angel is a 7,140-foot white Navajo Sandstone summit in Zion's Kolob Terrace section, standing across the Subway slot canyon from its counterpart, North Guardian Angel. It's one of the more visually striking peaks in the park when seen from Kolob Terrace Road, but reaching the actual summit is a serious undertaking, not a maintained trail.

What the route involves

• Starts at Wildcat Canyon Trailhead off Kolob Terrace Road and covers about 11 miles round trip with roughly 3,162 feet of elevation gain
• Requires dropping into the Left Fork of North Creek and climbing back out the other side across an isolated plateau, with off-trail gully and wash navigation
• Only a handful of parties reach the summit in a given year; April, May, and October are the more common attempt months
