Progeny Peak

Progeny Peak is an off-trail scramble in Zion's East Canyon, just east of the Zion–Mount Carmel Tunnel and north of Highway 9. The name isn't official — hikers gave it to this 6,275-foot summit informally back in 2005 as part of a naming theme for peaks in the area, and it has stuck in guidebooks and trip reports since. There's no maintained trail: the route climbs roughly 1,150 feet over about a mile each way, with steep, exposed sections that require real scrambling and careful navigation. It's easy to get cliffed out or turned around if you're not reading the terrain closely, and this isn't a route for anyone without off-trail experience. Along the way, keep an eye out for Two-Pines Arch, a small formation spanning roughly 25 feet. Reach the top and you get sweeping views across Zion's slickrock country in every direction — a reward reserved for those willing to do real routefinding to get there.
