Poverty Wash Road

Poverty Wash Road starts at the base of the White Cliffs a few miles outside Zion National Park's eastern boundary, following an old cattle route south from Highway 9 into state trust and BLM land toward the East Fork of the Virgin River. It's rough, clay-based ground that turns to deep mud when wet — the BLM recommends ATV or UTV travel beyond the Poverty Kiosk rather than a standard vehicle.

What's out there

• The road accesses Poverty Wash, a tributary slot canyon of Parunuweap Canyon with short colorful narrows, a 40-foot dryfall, and a small perennial stream
• This is remote canyon country with real flash-flood risk during storms — check weather and drainage conditions before entering any narrows
• BLM management plans for this area have been under review, so road and route status can change; confirm current access with the BLM Kanab Field Office
