Pine Valley Peak

Pine Valley Peak is a 7,415-foot summit of white Navajo sandstone inside Zion National Park's Kolob Terrace district, about 11.5 miles north-northwest of Springdale — a different mountain entirely from the better-known Pine Valley Mountain Wilderness out toward St. George. Its neighbors are North Guardian Angel, less than two miles to the southeast, and South Guardian Angel, three miles to the south-southeast.

Getting there

• Reached via Kolob Terrace Road, which climbs from the town of Virgin up onto the plateau
• The Wildcat Trailhead sits at a bend in the road practically at the peak's base, making the approach easier than most Zion summits
• No signed trail runs to the top — this is still an off-trail, self-navigated route

Spring and fall bring the most comfortable conditions; summer afternoons on the plateau can bring fast-building thunderstorms, so keep an eye on the sky.
