Day Hike
Official River Access Trail
A signed step down to the Virgin River
(0)
About
This is one of the short, signed spurs off the Zion Canyon Scenic Drive that lead down to the Virgin River — a stop-off rather than a destination hike in its own right. These river access points let visitors wade, cool off, or stage for canyoneering trips without scrambling down an unofficial bank. The Virgin River corridor can flood without much warning, so conditions can shift fast even on a clear day upstream.
What to know
- Reached from stops along the Zion Canyon shuttle route; private vehicles are restricted on Zion Canyon Scenic Drive for most of the year
- Check the park's current flash flood potential rating before getting in the water — the Virgin River corridor has a real history of dangerous flooding
- Not the same as a Narrows hike, which requires its own separate planning and conditions check
