About

The West Loop is part of Nung'wu Poa, a shared-use trail on Paiute tribal land just outside Springdale, built in partnership between the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, the Town of Springdale, Trails Utah, and the Trail Alliance of Southern Utah. "Nung'wu Poa" translates to Paiute Trail, and the project was completed in 2023.

What it's like

  • The route starts near George A. Barker River Park in Springdale and climbs roughly 300 feet onto a low mesa west of Zion Canyon.
  • Expect open views back toward the canyon's sandstone walls rather than shade — this is an exposed, south-facing hillside.
  • Riding and hiking season generally runs March through December; snow can close it in winter.

Access and parking are free and open to the public. Because the trail crosses Paiute tribal land, stay on the built route and pack out what you bring in.
