Nagunt Mesa

Nagunt Mesa is a 7,785-foot summit in the Kolob Canyons "Fingers" area of Zion National Park, ringed by Navajo sandstone walls that rise up to 1,400 feet. Its name comes from the Paiute word for bighorn sheep. Timber Top Mountain sits 1.3 miles to the south, with Paria Point and Tucupit Point to the north.

Good to know

• No maintained trail leads to the summit — reaching it is an off-trail scramble for experienced route-finders
• Most visitors take in Nagunt Mesa as scenery from Kolob Canyons Road or the Timber Creek area rather than climbing it
• Spring and fall are the most favorable seasons

It's a quiet corner of the park even by Kolob Canyons standards, which already sees far fewer visitors than the main Zion Canyon. Bring navigation tools if you're attempting the summit itself.
