Mount Zion

Mount Zion is a named summit in Zion National Park's backcountry high country, east of the main canyon corridor. Unlike the park's marquee hikes, it sits well off the shuttle-accessible trail network, and there's no maintained, signed route to its summit — published trip reports and route descriptions specific to this peak are scarce.

What's clear from the surrounding terrain is the pattern typical of Zion's upper plateau: slickrock and Navajo sandstone benches, scattered pinyon-juniper and ponderosa cover at higher elevations, and long sightlines back down toward the canyon. Reaching a peak like this means off-trail navigation, a topo map or GPS track, and the self-sufficiency to handle exposed sandstone terrain with no water sources and no cell service.

Treat it as a backcountry objective rather than a day hike pulled off a map — check current conditions with the park's wilderness desk before setting out, since undeveloped terrain around Zion often crosses drainages that can flash flood after storms.
