About

Middle Fork Taylor Creek Trail is one of the few maintained trails in Zion's Kolob Canyons district, reached from its own entrance off I-15 rather than the main south entrance. The trailhead sits about two miles into Kolob Canyons Road, and the trail follows the creek roughly 2.5 miles up a finger canyon to its end at Double Arch Alcove, a broad, undercut sandstone recess streaked black and white where water has seeped through the rock for millennia.

Along the way

  • It's about 5 miles round trip with a gentle 500-foot gain, generally considered easy to moderate and manageable for kids.
  • The trail passes two 1930s homestead cabins, the Larson Cabin and the Fife Cabin, built before this canyon became part of Zion in 1956.
  • Plan on 3 to 5 hours; there's little shade, so bring water.
