Maverick Trail

Maverick is one of three expert-level rides in the lower Applecross trail group, part of a 35-mile mountain bike network built just outside Zion's eastern boundary on North Fork Road, about a mile past the park line off Highway 9.

On the trail

• Maverick sits in the 6,000 to 6,800-foot range and links up with Little Dipper near the fork that also serves the Lunar Ride, Sidewinder, and Bison Chute descents.
• Riding season generally runs mid-May through October; trails are marked with small rock cairns ("tombstones") noting name and difficulty.
• The Applecross system was built through a partnership involving Zion Cycles, the Zion National Park Forever Project, and the Greater Zion tourism office — it's a purpose-built trail network, not backcountry singletrack inside the park itself.

Expert-level rating: expect technical features and real exposure, not a beginner loop.
