About

Jenny's Canyon proves that the best things really do come in small packages. This pocket-sized slot canyon near Snow Canyon State Park delivers all the drama of southern Utah's famous narrows without the commitment of a long hike. In just 10 to 20 minutes round-trip, you'll duck into a hidden world of sculpted sandstone walls that seem to glow from within.

Easy Access to Slot Canyon Magic

The approach couldn't be simpler. A sandy path leads from the parking area (free, though sometimes crowded) straight into the mouth of the canyon. Within minutes, the walls close in around you, creating that classic slot canyon experience where sunlight filters down through the narrow opening above.

Kids love the sense of adventure as they squeeze between the smooth rock walls. The acoustics inside amplify every sound—you might hear pigeons cooing overhead transformed into an ethereal chorus.

Perfect for All Ages and Abilities

What makes Jenny's Canyon special is its accessibility. While most slot canyons require technical skills or hours of hiking, this one welcomes everyone:

  • Families with toddlers

  • Older visitors

  • Casual hikers

  • Dogs on leashes

The sandy floor is mostly flat, with just a gentle incline at the very end. The canyon walls provide natural shade and noticeably cooler temperatures, a welcome relief on hot desert days.

Location and Timing Tips

Located in Dammeron Valley, about 20 minutes northwest of St. George, Jenny's Canyon makes an ideal quick stop when exploring the greater Zion region. It's particularly convenient if you're staying in St. George or visiting nearby Snow Canyon State Park.

The trail sees its share of visitors, so arriving early helps secure one of the limited parking spots and gives you a more peaceful experience in the narrow canyon. For photographers, the best light typically comes in late morning when the sun angles perfectly into the canyon. But honestly, any time works—this little slot canyon has a way of making everyone feel like they've discovered something special.

Best Time to Visit Jenny's Canyon

The natural shade inside the slot provides noticeably cooler temperatures than the surrounding desert, which makes this trail more comfortable in summer than many exposed routes in the St. George area. Late morning is when the sun angles most directly into the canyon opening, which photographers find favorable. Morning visits offer the best parking odds and a quieter experience inside the narrow passage. Spring and fall are comfortable, and winter temperatures in this area are typically mild enough for a brief visit. The short duration means weather timing is mostly about parking strategy rather than heat management.

Trail Tips for Jenny's Canyon

  • Parking is limited and fills on busier days — arriving early gives the best chance of finding a spot without circling the small lot.
  • The entire round-trip takes 10 to 20 minutes, making this a practical add-on stop rather than a destination hike; it pairs naturally with a Snow Canyon State Park visit or as a quick detour while passing through the area.
  • The canyon's accessible, flat terrain makes it genuinely practical for toddlers and older visitors who may not manage longer or steeper routes — the description specifically notes families with very young children complete it successfully.
  • Standard footwear handles the mostly flat sandy floor; the gentle incline at the back of the canyon can be slippery in loose sand, so any shoe with grip is preferable to sandals.

Getting There

Jenny's Canyon is located in Dammeron Valley, about 20 minutes northwest of St. George. A small parking area is on-site and the trailhead is signed. The lot is limited in size and fills on busier days; arriving early in the morning gives the best chance of a spot. This trail is not within Snow Canyon State Park and requires no state park pass. Standard passenger vehicles can reach the parking area without difficulty.
