Isaac Peak

Isaac Peak is the middle summit of the Three Patriarchs, the trio of sandstone monoliths — Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob — that rise on the west side of Zion Canyon. Methodist minister Frederick Vining Fisher named the group for the biblical patriarchs in 1916 during a visit with local guides. Most visitors experience Isaac Peak from the Court of the Patriarchs Viewpoint, a short paved path (about 0.1 mile round trip) reached by shuttle that frames the classic view of all three peaks. Standing 6,726 feet tall, Isaac Peak itself is not a hiking destination — reaching the actual summit means either a technical canyoneering approach through Isaac Canyon via the South Fork of Heaps Canyon, or one of several established rock-climbing routes on the Navajo Sandstone face, in the 5.10 to 5.12 range. The peak closes to climbers during raptor nesting season, so check current park closures before planning any technical route.
