Inclined Temple

Inclined Temple is a remote sandstone summit in Zion National Park's backcountry, rising to about 7,150 feet roughly seven miles north of Springdale. Carved from Navajo Sandstone, it takes its name from the pronounced tilt of its broad summit plateau, officially adopted by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names in 1935. There is no maintained trail to its top; it's a feature you see from a distance rather than a hike you do.

Where to see it

• The West Rim Trail offers clear views of Inclined Temple along with Greatheart Mesa and Phantom Valley to the south.
• The Chinle Trail also looks north and east toward Inclined Temple and Mount Kinesava.
• Reaching the summit itself is unmarked backcountry scrambling terrain, not a beginner-friendly objective.
• Spring and fall bring the clearest, most comfortable viewing conditions.
