Imlay Temple

Imlay Temple is a peak in Zion's backcountry best known by association with Imlay Canyon, one of the park's most demanding technical canyoneering routes rather than as a hiking destination in its own right. There's no maintained trail to its summit.

What it's actually known for

• Imlay Canyon, which drains the terrain around the peak, is rated among the best technical canyons in Zion — first descended in 1978 — and requires rappelling gear, a helmet, and rope skills to complete.
• The standard exit for Imlay Canyon runs down through the Narrows to the Temple of Sinawava, which means anyone in the canyon shares the same flash-flood exposure as Narrows hikers and should check current flood potential before entering.
• For hikers rather than canyoneers, Imlay Temple is mostly a name and a view — visible to the north from Potato Hollow on the West Rim Trail.
