Horse Ranch Mountain

At 8,733 feet, Horse Ranch Mountain is the highest point in Zion National Park, rising above Camp Creek and Taylor Creek in the park's Kolob Canyons section — a separate, less-visited district reached from Interstate 15, not from the main south entrance near Springdale. There's no maintained trail to the summit. Reaching it is a cross-country route out of Lower Basin Road involving real bushwhacking, and parts of the approach cross private land, so those attempting it have had to get permission from a landowner near the trailhead. This is backcountry travel for experienced route-finders, not a marked hike.

• Access is through the Kolob Canyons entrance off I-15, about 50 miles from Zion's main south entrance
• No maintained trail — reaching the summit requires off-trail navigation and crosses private property in sections
• Not a casual hike; suited to experienced backcountry travelers only
