Day Hike
Hop Valley Trail
The valley connector on the Trans-Zion route
(0)
About
Hop Valley Trail runs about 6.5 miles between the Hop Valley Trailhead on Kolob Terrace Road and the La Verkin Creek Trail in the Kolob Canyons district, forming one leg of the multi-day Trans-Zion route that crosses from Kolob down toward the main canyon.
Planning notes
- Reach the trailhead by driving from Virgin north on Kolob Terrace Road, about 12.5 miles to the parking area.
- Sitting around 6,000 feet, Hop Valley runs cooler than the main canyon floor, which makes it a reasonable summer option when Zion Canyon is baking.
- Combined with the push on to Kolob Arch, the round trip runs about 15 miles and 1,843 feet of gain — a hard day or a comfortable overnight.
- Part of the valley crosses a private inset of land where cattle still graze; day hikers don't need a permit, but anyone camping overnight does.
