Hogs Heaven
A remote technical canyon for experienced canyoneers only
(0)
About
Hogs Heaven is a remote technical slot canyon in Zion's backcountry, tucked between North Fork and Deep Creek. It's canyoneering, not hiking: the route drops parties into a seldom-visited stretch of Deep Creek and typically takes 12 to 14 hours trailhead to trailhead, so it's suited to small, fast-moving groups with full rope and rappelling gear.
Good to know
- Rated 3A IV on the canyon rating system
- Doesn't hold standing water under normal conditions, so a wetsuit usually isn't required
- GPS and solid map-reading skills are essential in this remote drainage
- Technical canyons in Zion require a wilderness permit
The name comes from Hog Allen, an early settler in the area, and the canyon carries some local legend along with its reputation among experienced canyoneers. This is an advanced objective, not a casual outing — there's no maintained trail and no easy bailout partway through.
