Hepworth Peak

Hepworth Peak is a 6,520-foot summit tucked behind the main skyline of Zion Canyon, one of a cluster of four backcountry peaks — Destination, Gifford, Hepworth, and Roof — reached from Gifford Canyon near the east entrance of the Zion–Mount Carmel Tunnel. It's technical, off-trail terrain: the route to Hepworth and neighboring Roof Peak covers about 6.6 miles round-trip with roughly 2,600 feet of elevation gain, including stretches of class 3 scrambling.

This isn't a marked hike. Route-finding is genuinely difficult throughout, and hikers who've done it recommend a GPS track alongside solid map-reading skills — a navigation mistake here means backtracking through brush and rock rather than following cairns. It's a serious undertaking suited to experienced scramblers, not an add-on to a day exploring the main canyon.
