About

The Grafton Wash Trail follows the route to Grafton, a 19th-century Mormon settlement turned ghost town just south of Zion, now inside Rockville's town limits. From the Bridge Street junction in Rockville, the route crosses the Virgin River and follows Grafton Road roughly 3.3 miles one-way to the townsite, with the adobe schoolhouse and the well-preserved Russell home framed against Zion's pink cliffs.

Good to know

  • The original 1859 settlement was destroyed by a Virgin River flood in 1862; the rebuilt town lasted until 1944
  • Several films, including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, used Grafton as a filming location
  • A cemetery sits along the way before the main townsite
