Grafton Mesa (Upper) Trailhead

The Grafton Mesa Upper Trailhead sits above the Grafton ghost town outside Rockville, on the same tableland as neighboring Gooseberry Mesa just west of Zion National Park. It's the starting point for mountain bike and hiking routes onto the mesa, ranging from an easy out-and-back to a viewpoint over the Virgin River valley as it rises toward Zion Canyon, to more technical descents dropping off the rim toward Rockville.

Getting there

• From Rockville, cross the Virgin River on the old bridge south of town and follow the road up onto the mesa
• The easy overlook option runs about 4 miles round trip with roughly 300 feet of climbing
• Grafton ghost town below has its own history, including early Hollywood filming and the Butch Cassidy story
