Elephant Temple

Elephant Temple is a peak in Zion Canyon, visible from the Zion Narrows Riverside Walk near the Floating Rock feature, where it rises alongside neighboring Imlay Temple above the North Fork of the Virgin River, at roughly 5,344 feet in elevation.

Reaching its base means hiking beyond the paved Riverside Walk and into the Narrows itself, starting at the Temple of Sinawava — the last stop on the Zion Canyon shuttle, which handles most visitor traffic through the main canyon since private vehicles are restricted much of the year. The route to the base of Elephant Temple involves wading and sometimes swimming the river for several hours round trip, squarely inside the Narrows' flash-flood zone.

Check the park's current flood potential rating and forecast before entering the water — the Virgin River corridor has a real, documented history of fast, dangerous flash floods, and conditions can change quickly from storms miles upstream.
