De Mille Peak

De Mille Peak is a 6,539-foot summit in the Canaan Mountain Wilderness, a BLM-managed block of Navajo sandstone that rises along Zion National Park's southern boundary above Springdale and Rockville. It's named for Bishop Oliver De Mille, a Mormon pioneer tied to the nearby, long-abandoned settlement of Shunesburg. There's no maintained, signed trail to the summit — reaching it means cross-country wilderness travel across slickrock and pinyon-juniper terrain, the kind of route suited to experienced off-trail hikers with solid navigation skills, not a casual day hike.
