Dakota Hill

Dakota Hill is a backcountry high point on Zion National Park's east side, known mainly as the namesake of the 2007 Dakota Hill Fire Complex. Lightning ignited the fires on July 15, 2007, and they eventually burned about 9,112 acres, including roughly 5,858 acres inside the park. During the fire, the park closed its backcountry entirely and suspended canyoneering and wilderness permits.

There's no maintained trail or established visitor route documented for Dakota Hill itself — it sits in remote park backcountry rather than on a marked hiking corridor. In the years after the fire, monsoon storms sent flash floods down burned drainages near Dakota and Kolob, damaging roads and property downstream, a reminder of how fire and flash-flood risk connect in this terrain. Treat this as a backcountry landmark and a piece of Zion's fire history rather than a developed hike.
