About

Canyon Overlook Trailhead sits on Zion's east side, right after the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel on Highway 9. The trail itself climbs about a mile round trip over stone steps and slickrock to a viewpoint above the switchbacking road below, with the West Temple, Towers of the Virgin, Streaked Wall, and the Beehives all visible from the overlook.

Good to know

  • You need a private vehicle to get here; the park shuttle doesn't stop at this trailhead.
  • Parking is limited to the small lot at the trailhead and fills quickly during busy periods, so early morning or evening is your best bet.
  • Figure on 30 minutes to an hour for a moderate hike with about 213 feet of elevation gain.
