Burnt Mountain

Burnt Mountain is a remote, off-trail peak in the Kolob backcountry of Zion National Park, in the same high-plateau country as Kolob Terrace and the Kolob Canyons finger canyons. There's no maintained trail to the summit and very little written about it online — this is a destination for experienced off-trail hikers who already know how to navigate Zion's backcountry, not a marked day hike.

The name suggests its high ground was burned over at some point, likely from lightning, which is common across Zion's exposed plateau country. What documentation exists points to sweeping views across the surrounding Kolob terrain from the summit area, but there's no established route description, distance, or elevation figure worth repeating here — anyone heading out should be comfortable with route-finding, carry the right navigation tools, and check current Zion wilderness regulations before leaving established trails.

If you're looking for a maintained hike in this part of the park, the marked trails off Kolob Terrace Road (Hop Valley, Northgate Peaks, the Kolob Canyons trails) are a better starting point than Burnt Mountain.
