Angels Landing Trail

Angels Landing is Zion's best-known hike and one of the most exposed trails in the National Park System, climbing switchbacks up Walter's Wiggles to a narrow sandstone fin with chains bolted into the rock for the final, several-hundred-foot approach, with sheer drop-offs on both sides. It is not a hike for anyone uneasy with heights or exposure, and conditions on the chains change with weather and crowding.

Permit required

• Since 2022, hiking past Scout Lookout to the chained section requires a permit, issued through a seasonal lottery and a day-before lottery on Recreation.gov
• There's a $6 non-refundable application fee plus a $3 per-person charge for each issued permit
• Apply for the seasonal lottery in advance or try the day-before lottery, which opens from 12:01 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mountain Time the day before your hike; confirm current lottery windows on the NPS site before planning a trip
