Potato Hollow Springs

Potato Hollow is a grassy valley along Zion's West Rim Trail, home to backcountry campsite 8 and a small spring-fed pond. It's a quieter stretch of the trail — gentle up-and-down hiking through meadow rather than the exposed slickrock most of the West Rim is known for.

What to know before camping here

• The spring is real but not dependable — plentiful early in the season, often dry by late summer, so don't count on it without checking current conditions at the backcountry desk.
• Campsite 8 is secluded, but its position makes it a less practical stop for hikers doing the West Rim as a fast two-day trip.
• From the hollow, Imlay Canyon is visible on the north side of the trail.
• Leaving Potato Hollow toward the rim involves about a 400-foot climb.
