About

Lower Emerald Pool Trail is a paved, mile-round-trip walk to the lowest of Zion's three Emerald Pools, climbing only about 70 feet from the trailhead near Zion Lodge. It's one of the more accessible hikes in the park — the surface is paved sandstone the whole way, and the lower pool itself is reachable by wheelchair with assistance.

Good to know

  • Start from the Grotto shuttle stop, cross the bridge over the Virgin River, or pick up the trail directly across from Zion Lodge at shuttle stop 5.
  • The waterfall depends on snowmelt or recent rain — it can be a trickle or nearly dry in late summer, so don't expect a guaranteed cascade.
  • The paved path sits close to water and can turn slick after rain; take it slow on the stairs near the pool.
  • Dogs aren't permitted on this trail.
